In Harlem Rhapsody by Victoria Christopher Murray, Jessie Redmon Fauset arrives in Harlem in 1919 to fulfill her dream as the first Black woman literary editor of The Crisis. Despite a secret affair with her boss W. E. B. Du Bois, she becomes a driving force behind the Harlem Renaissance. Jessie discovers and nurtures talents like Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen, helping The Crisis become a literary powerhouse. As her own novel garners acclaim, Jessie must grapple with the personal sacrifices behind her groundbreaking success.
