Better Than The Movie Book Club meets to discuss a new buzzy book that has an upcoming film or TV adaptation. When everyone else is talking about it, we can say we actually read the book first.
In "The Lying Life of Adults," Elena Ferrante tells a story about the transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. The protagonist, Giovanna, is searching for her reflection in two kindred cities that fear and detest one another: Naples of the heights, which assumes a mask of refinement, and Naples of the depths, a place of excess and vulgarity. She moves from one to the other in search of the truth, but neither city seems to offer answers or escape.
This story has been adapted into a Netflix original series by the same name. Watch the show and read with us, as we determine which is better!
