In David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning title 1776, readers are taken into a pivotal year of the American Revolution, when political and military decisions led Great Britain to wage war against its colonies and placed the fate of independence in the hands of George Washington. Drawing on extensive research from American and British archives, the narrative captures the perspectives of both the Continental soldiers seeking independence and the disciplined British forces they fought against, emphasizing the human drama and immense stakes surrounding the Declaration of Independence.
